AI X‑ray tutor

Upload a photo of a practice radiograph from a teaching file, textbook, course or exam revision, and the AI tutor walks you through it the way a radiologist would. It checks image quality and works through the film area by area, then gives possible findings with confidence levels and teaching points.

Education only — not for real patients

This tool is a learning aid, not a medical device, and it can be wrong, sometimes confidently. Do not use it to interpret your own X-ray or anyone's X-ray for a health decision. If you have questions about your own results, ask the clinician who requested the X-ray, or contact NHS 111 or your local health service.

Secure payment by Stripe with Google Pay, Apple Pay or card. Images that have been interpreted before are free, and if the AI can't produce a report your payment stays valid for another try.

Your image is resized and stripped of metadata in your browser, sent securely for analysis, and not stored. The text report is kept (never the image) so the same image is answered instantly next time. See our privacy policy.

How to get a useful read

  • Fill the frame with the film and hold the phone parallel to the screen to avoid distortion.
  • Turn off the room lights and screen glare. Avoid moiré by stepping back slightly and zooming.
  • Crop out anything identifying before you upload.
  • Then make your own reading first. Compare it with the tutor's walk-through, not the other way round.

Known limits of AI on X-rays

Studies of general-purpose AI models show they miss subtle findings, sometimes invent findings that aren't there, and can confuse left and right, especially on photos of screens. Treat every finding as a hypothesis to check against what you can see yourself.

What the tutor does

  1. Checks the image: is it a radiograph, is the quality good enough, and is any identifying information visible?
  2. Orients: body region, projection, age group and technical adequacy (rotation, inspiration, penetration).
  3. Runs a systematic review, area by area, using the standard approach for that region (ABCDE for the chest, for example).
  4. Lists possible findings with a confidence level, an impression and a differential diagnosis, with the reasoning for each.
  5. Gets a second reading: an independent review pass re-checks the image and corrects the draft before you see it.
  6. Teaches: pearls to carry to the next film, and links to the matching guides and quizzes.

Learning to read films properly takes deliberate practice on many verified cases. Use the tutor alongside the learning library and the quiz bank, where every answer is a documented diagnosis.

Intended use: the X-Ray Atlas AI tutor is intended solely for education and training in radiograph interpretation, using practice images. It is not intended for diagnosis, triage, screening, monitoring or treatment of any person, and is not a medical device.
