Answer: Calcaneal fracture
What to look for in calcaneal fracture
- Böhler angle <20°.
- Flattened posterior facet.
Description by the image author (may be in another language): X-ray of the ankle of a 97 year old man who escaped from a retirement home on a powered wheelchair but drove into a ditch, resulting in a gash on his left lower leg. The image shows a 2 x 1 cm long fragment posterior to the medial malleolus , presumably from the calcaneus . It looks corticalized, indicating it was caused by an injury far earlier in life.
Educational case. The diagnosis comes from the image's documented source; the "what to look for" list describes the condition in general and is not a report of this individual image.
