Answer: Inhaled (aspirated) foreign body
What to look for in inhaled (aspirated) foreign body
- Unilateral hyperlucency that persists on expiration.
Description by the image author (may be in another language): Foreign body aspiration as shown on chest X-ray: The left lung is overinflated due to the valve effect of the foreign body in the left main bronchus. This caused the corresponding mediastinal shift to the right and reduced right lung volume. The foreign body was removed on bronchoscopy before this chest X-ray was taken.
