Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) on X‑ray: 4 real cases
Real, openly licensed radiographs showing developmental dysplasia of the hip (ddh). Study what to look for, then open each case and read it yourself before revealing the answer.
What to look for
- Shallow, steep acetabulum (increased acetabular index).
- Femoral head ossification centre small or displaced superolaterally, outside the inner lower quadrant formed by Hilgenreiner's and Perkin's lines.
- Disrupted Shenton's line. Ultrasound is preferred in young infants before the femoral head ossifies.
